Charles B. Ries
Charles B. Ries is the senior shareholder attorney in the firm. A native of Buffalo, New York, Charles graduated from Alfred University and the Albany Law School of Union University. He served as a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocates General Corps from 1965-1969.
Charles was an instructor of Business Law at Siena College and a City Court Judge for the City of Cohoes, New York from 1975-1978. Charles is a legal counsel to the Cohoes Community Center and a member of the board of directors of the Cohoes Rotary Club. Charles has been practicing in the areas of estate planning, probate and estate administration, wills, trusts, elder law, including Medicare/Medicaid planning, and applications and real estate.
Stephen J. Van Ullen
Stephen J. Van Ullen is a shareholder attorney with the firm. Stephen is a native of the Capital District and is a graduate of LeMoyne College and the Albany Law School of Union University. Stephen joined the firm in 1980. He has served as an instructor of Business Law at Maria College in Albany, New York.
Stephen formerly served as counsel to the Cohoes Housing Authority and the Cohoes City School District as well as special counsel to the City of Cohoes, New York. Stephen previously served as a Cohoes City Court Judge from 1992-2015. Stephen practices in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, and elder law. He also practices in the area of commercial and residential real estate, representing individuals, businesses, and financial institutions in all phases of real estate law and business organization.
Candace L. Farone
Candace has been with the firm for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Shaker High School and the SUNY College at Potsdam. In the office, she primarily handles commercial and residential real estate transactions, title insurance matters and the firm’s bookkeeping. She currently lives in Rotterdam with her husband and teenage son. When not at the office, she enjoys ballroom dancing, musical theatre and being a Mom.
Katherine L. Hentnik
Ms. Hentnik joined the Wertime Ries & Van Ullen PC firm of counsel in November 2017. She concentrates her practice in the area of Real Estate, predominantly in residential transactions and lender/bank settlement representation. Kate has over 15 years of experience working in real estate locally. While in college, she began working as a secretary before becoming a closing coordinator and law clerk for a local firm prior to being admitted to the bar. Prior to focusing her practice on real estate, Kate also practiced bankruptcy law, litigation support, corporate law, and estate planning. Kate graduated from Albany Law School of Union University with a Juris Doctorate in 2008.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Welfare from the University of Albany in 2005. Kate is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She primarily practices out of the Latham/Albany office but travels for real estate closings throughout the Greater Capital Region.
Kristen M. Casper
Kristen concentrates her practice in Estate and Trust Planning, alongside Estate Administration and Probate. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from The College at Brockport in 2012 and her Juris Doctor Degree from Albany Law School in 2016. As an active member of the Trust and Estates Section of the New York State Bar Association, Kristen serves as the Co-Chair of Membership Services for the Elder Law and Special Needs Executive Committee, with her noteworthy contributions recognized in the Elder Law and Special Needs Law Journal. Additionally, Kristen is affiliated with the New York State Woman’s Bar Association. Prior to joining Wertime Ries & Van Ullen, Kristen accrued over 6 years of partnership experience at a local law firm. Her background encompasses Real Estate, Business Formation, Estate Litigation, and Contract Law, lending a wealth of comprehensive expertise to her practice."
